DHL Express — When & Why
Refrigerated Items
Products that must stay cold (butter, cheese, etc.) are automatically routed via DHL Express with insulated packaging and ice packs. Refrigerated orders are dispatched on Mondays only to avoid weekend delays.
Heavy Packages (>30 kg)
Pósturinn accepts parcels up to 30 kg. If your order exceeds this limit, it will automatically ship via DHL Express. The DHL rate is calculated based on your region and the total package weight.
Tracking & Delivery
Both Pósturinn and DHL Express include full tracking. You will receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order is shipped. DHL Express typically delivers within 1–3 business days worldwide.

Each order is hand-packed in our Reykjavik warehouse with protective padding to prevent breakage.

How is the shipping cost calculated?
Standard shipping costs are calculated in real-time using the Pósturinn API based on your exact delivery address and total order weight. You will see the precise shipping cost at checkout before you pay — there are no hidden fees or markups.
If your order requires DHL Express (heavy or refrigerated), a fixed rate based on your region and package weight is applied instead.
Customs duties & import taxes
Prices do not include customs duties or import taxes that may apply in your country. These charges are the responsibility of the recipient. We recommend checking your local customs regulations before ordering.
Processing time
Orders placed before 2:00 PM GMT on business days are typically processed and shipped the same day. Orders placed after this time or on weekends will be shipped on the next business day.
Refrigerated orders are dispatched on Mondays only to ensure items stay cold throughout transit.
When is DHL Express used instead of Pósturinn?
DHL Express is used automatically when:
- Your order contains refrigerated items (butter, cheese, etc.) that need temperature-controlled shipping
- Your order weighs more than 30 kg, which exceeds Pósturinn's parcel limit
The checkout will clearly show which carrier is being used and the exact shipping cost.
Restricted items by country
Some products (especially food items) may be restricted in certain countries. If we are unable to ship specific items to your location, we will notify you and offer a refund or replacement.
